The role of the companion pet has changed in today's society; over 75% have family status, and about 30% have people status. The traditional veterinary practice has been centered on curative medicine, as has most of the continuing education being offered by associations. In 2004, Dr. Catanzaro was asked by the AVMA to introduce well care concepts for the companion animal practices; about 70% of the front door swing is caused by preventive medicine and well care concerns by the pet stewards. The role of Human-Animal-Bond Interactions has never been more important in these days of dwindling discretionary income in many client households. The presentation of well care plans, the twice a year consult (one dog year is 5-7 people years), and team-based veterinary health care delivery will be explored; client-centered patient advocacy will be shared as the link-pin for the client-veterinarian-patient triad.
